If you are seeing a huge drop in power, increased oil consumption and excessive blowby, you will need to clean your cdr more often, as older motors have more blowby, thus more pressure in crankcase.for old engines, we find it good to have the "swapper", clean and on hand to swap in and go.Item: 201551619309 Cummins Rear Main Crankshaft Oil Seal w/ Steel Installer 89-02 5.529. Never, and I will state this emphatically, never jump into the big job, with out rectifying the peripherals first.no matter what a garage tells you, as they make their living working on your truck. Things on this site are cyclical, if desired I will go and dig up a couple of threads that were the exact same symptoms that you are experiencing, that were not done in the correct procedure, and the big job of changing the seal had to be done again. So, even if you do change the seal, and cdr is not working, you will need to do the seal again, as the rubber lip folds from the pressure and prematurely wears, never being able to seal again. If your cdr is not allowing the crankcase to vent correctly, it will pressurize and push oil out the bearings.
